You might be wondering…

  • There are many styles of martial arts but only Krav Maga addresses the true nature of a street altercation—when self-defense training can save your life.

Krav Maga was founded by Imi Lichtenfield. It started as the close-quarter combat system for the Israeli military and special forces but is now the leading self-defence system employed by police and military forces worldwide.

Training in this reality-based style is the most effective and proven approach for defending yourself and your loved ones. Krav Maga is the only style that realistically equips you to defend yourself and get home safe. It includes training that addresses:

    multiple attackers

    weapons

    no rules

    uncontrolled environment

Krav Maga is also relatively easy to learn! The movements are natural and do not require unique athletic ability. This self-defense system is designed to work for those who cannot rely on strength, size, or power as an advantage.

The most important element of the training is your consistency. Krav Maga works by retraining natural reflexes and preventing freezing under pressure.

  • Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu grew popular in the early 90s when Royce Gracie dominated opponents from every style in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. It didn’t matter if his opponent was an experienced boxer, or a Kung Fu master, their skills were nullified as soon as the fight hit the ground.

The advantage of BJJ is its focus on preparation for when the fight hits the ground. And, since 7/10 fights land on the ground (9/10 when women are involved), BJJ is the only way to properly train for what to do when you are on the ground, with someone on top of you.

We are proud to be affiliated with Team Ascension/Salvosa BJJ. House of Combat students regularly compete at local tournaments representing Carlson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in Ontario.

  • Krav Maga and BJJ complement each other. Training both styles is how we offer students the most well-rounded martial arts and self-defense education.

    Krav Maga Pros:

    • The only style with comprehensive and proven weapons defense and disarm

    • Krav Maga is the leading self-defence system employed by police and military forces worldwide.

    • Most of the moves in Krav Maga are banned in every combat sport. Dangerous and effective.

    Krav Maga Cons:

    • There will never be a Krav Maga competition as each move is designed to kill or paralyze in self-defense. Therefore despite realistic pressure drills, you cannot practice with 100% pressure.

    BJJ Pros:

    • The only style that can offer 100% pressure while remaining relatively injury free.

    • Best style for ground fighting - where most altercations land.

    BJJ Cons:

    • No Weapons defense

    • It does not prepare you to take a punch—or defend one

    • It does not address multiple attackers

    • Fails to address the realities of a street fight without rules
